The Walis

Article (12) of Royal Decree No. 36/2022.

Each wilayat shall have a wali, who shall be appointed, transferred, and relieved of their duties by a decision from the Minister, along with determining their rank and financial allowances.

Article (13)

The wali shall be responsible for the following within the wilayat:

Maintaining public order.
Overseeing tribal affairs in accordance with the ministry's established regulations.
Meeting with sheikhs, notables, and citizens to understand their views and the needs of the wilayat.
Organizing and supervising the electoral process for members of the Shura Council and the Municipal Council, following the ministry's rules and guidelines.
Supervising the work of reconciliation committees according to the ministry’s rules and guidelines.
Overseeing the application of various prevailing customs and traditions.
Chairing local committees within the wilayat.
Monitoring the performance of the municipal branch within the wilayat, ensuring it fulfills its duties, and reporting to the Governor.
Monitoring the performance of other governmental units' branches and offices within the wilayat and submitting periodic reports to the Governor.
Working to create job opportunities for citizens in coordination with relevant authorities, and submitting regular reports to the Governor.
Participating in the preparation of development plans for the wilayat and monitoring their implementation.
Submitting proposals to enhance the economic and social aspects of the wilayat to the Governor.
Providing periodic reports on all matters related to their duties to the Governor.
Any other responsibilities assigned by the Minister or the Governor.
